UPDATE:  6/6/2016

Lil Bit was very scared at first when she arrived. She needs time to warm up to people and pets, but she is getting much better.  She likes to have a safe spot (we call it her special place, and it is a very large dog cage, with a big cushy bed, covered on top for more privacy) for when she feels uncomfortable.  She likes to have a routine.  She is fine with big and little dogs, males and females. Lil Bit is potty trained (NO accidents) and loves to patrol our large fenced-in yard.  She comes when called and is very well behaved.  She is very good about sleeping in her own bed at night and going into her special place for during the day (willingly).  She is good about not getting into things, and is fine if kept loose in the house.  She loves to nap on the couch.  Lil Bit loves to be petted and scratched, and have her belly rubbed. She is a very sweet dog.  Lil Bit LOVES to play with small tennis balls – when you toss it she gets so excited she barks and dances around.  She’s actually quite fast when pursing a ball.  She will also play with them herself, tossing them around and hiding them in blankets.  Things we are working on include getting picked up (she is not big on that, but will let you), sit and stay, and using the ramp to get on the couch instead of jumping up.

Sadly Little Bit was adopted out and returned because they said they could not care for her any longer. And now she is overweight so we'll have to work to get the weight off her and get her a dental and updated on shots....stay tuned, we'll keep you posed about this sweet girl.

Lil Bit is also leash trained and loves to go for walks. She is on a special diet to lose weight, and has already lost a few pounds. She has been through several homes (between owners and fosters) so she needs to find her forever home.  It is hard for her to trust because of this, but she is getting better about that.

Bio from 2014:

Hi, this is Lil Bit #5 and I just wanted to give everyone out there an update on what I have been up to the past week.  My Foster Mommy and her family have been on a much needed vacation so another Foster Mommy was gracious enough to let me stay with her and her two dogs. While I was there, she picked up two more very young foster puppies and I wasn’t really sure about those two fur balls, they are ok but I don’t think I want little puppies around all the time.

While I have been there we took long walks when it wasn’t raining and I did great on my lash and enjoyed those walks a lot, but she wouldn’t let me stop and smell the roses or anything else along the way. We also played ball and I really, really enjoyed that a lot and I get to take my ball home with me, so watch out Foster Mommy... get your throwing arm ready!   My fill-in Mommy has continued to work with me on my come, sit and stay commands and I’m almost there with those, and with continued work I should have those mastered soon.  Of course when she’s trying to teach me I get a TREAT and that’s a big incentive.   I also get a treat when I potty outside, my Foster Mom doesn’t give me treats for that so my fill-in Mommy had to get that approved with my Foster Mommy and I’m so glad she said yes.

I have really enjoyed my very own vacation and I’m looking forward to finding my very own Furever Home. My fill-in Mommy says that I’m really smart and loving once I get to know you and she doesn’t understand why I haven’t been adopted yet. I can be a little nervous and standoffish at first, but after a few minutes I come around. I love it when you put your face down and let me smell your breath... that is my way of knowing I can trust you, just ask her cousin.   Please consider me as your fur baby!  I would make a really great addition to your home and will give you lots of Doggie Kisses and LOVE!

Little Bit is up to date on all shots, on heartworm prevention, has had her dental and is mirochipped .  She is ready for her very own Furever Family.

Meet Little Bit an owner surrender due to her owner's health problems, which have stopped her from caring for her doxie.  We do know that Little Bit was first rescued from a home at three years old where she was keep in a crate all the time, but moving forward in her young dog life she will be loved from now on.

We are learning that Little Bit loves to eat, so we need to watch her doxie figure.  She also loves sitting on the couch to have you rub her belly, and car rides.  She walks very well on a leash, and is crate trained and house trained if you keep her on a schedule.  In her foster home she gets along with 2 female doxies, a male doxie and 2 cats, or she is happy to be in the yard alone. I don’t crate her while we are gone because she’s fine out of a crate but again, she would need to be kept on a schedule with potty breaks.

Little Bit is good at some commands, is starting to play with a ball, and is very curious about the dog toys laying around.  If you are looking to add to you furfamily, please look at Little Bit... she will make a very great addition to her Furever home!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
