UPDATE:
Over Memorial Day weekend, we had the opportunity to see little Terri’s personality really start to shine through.  She is a sweet little girl.  She is not as nervous or excitable and is starting to calm down and enjoy being a family dog.  She LOVES kids (was around 10 – 13 year olds) and barks at big dogs!  She misses her play time with her foster brother (who was adopted) and has started chewing.  This has not been too big of a problem as long as she has her kong or toy to chew on and some play time.  If these things are not available to her, a chair leg might do.

Her potty training is coming along wonderfully, however she is still on a schedule.  She has gotten comfortable on car rides and will walk on a leash.  Terri is really coming out of her shell and becoming quite a wonderful, loveable little girl.  It’s been fun watching her blossom.

My name is Terri and I am a very happy and loveable little girl.  I did not get much love before I came to my foster home, so I am soaking it up!  I like to be a lap dog, a neck pillow or just about anything to be close to you.  I get very excited for a lot of reasons like just waking up in the morning or going to bed in the big bed at night!  My Foster Mommy calls me a little wiggle butt because I am always so happy and my tail is always wagging.  Life is good now!
The people who had me before just didn’t want me anymore, so they were just going to shoot me.  Instead, a nice lady who could not keep me, stepped in and took me to a clinic who then called the AADR.  That was the beginning of a great new life and I just cannot wait to find my furever home!

My Foster Mommy is working with me on my potty training.  I do pretty well as long as I’m taken out every hour or two and it is not raining outside!  I have to have my Foster Mommy go outside with me because I do not like going out alone, even though there are 3 other dogs going out too!  All I have to do is get my business done and I get a lot of praise and love!

We also have 2 kitties at my Foster home.  I like to bark at them. Sometimes, I try to sneak up and sniff them, but they really do not seem to care what I do!  There is also another Foster Doggy and he is teaching me how to play!  We have a blast even though he can be stingy with the toys, which sometimes turns into tug of war.
My Foster Mommy thinks it is pretty obvious no one has taken the time to work with me and teach me things.  However, I am a smart little girl and very eager to please!  Do you think you have the time and patience to work with me and love me?  If so, please contact my Foster Mommy.  She loves to talk about me!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
