Tigger is a very very sweet girl. Gets along with all the other fosters, male and female. She has been tested with cats and young children and done fine. She loves a warm doggie bed to lay her head down and will sleep in a doggie bed in your bedroom. She is housetrained and crate trained. She does love to eat so can not be free fed. She does have to be on special UD dog food for the rest of her life but a 10lb bag at a cup a day last a long time.
10 yr old brindled smooth. Tigger is a couch potato. She has to be pushed to go out in cold or wet weather, but she will go. She will use pee pads if left down for use; if not she lets you know when she has to go out. Tigger has a fetish with licking her paws and chewing her nails. She will stop when told to stop, but she will go back to licking and chewing her nails frequently. Tigger loves to sit next to her human and be touched or petted. She is not keen on being picked up for any length of time, but she will lay on your lap for extended periods of time. Tigger is somewhat food aggressive with the other dogs, but not with humans. She is learning manners by having to wait her turn for treats after being outside in the morning and evening. Tigger knows sit, stay, come, cookie, no, and basket. She has a couple of little lumps and bumps that come with age. You can see the beginnings of cataracts in her eyes in the evening.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
