BIO:
Wendy is a sweet older lady who was found as a stray. She recently had her teeth cleaned and lost several including her upper canines. She is now happily eating dry food that has been softened in water. She has a mysterious scar on her back that doesn't bother her a bit. She may have been burned or injured at some point; it does not look like a surgery scar.
Wendy is a cheerful girl and loves to go for walks and lounge on the porch. She walks well on a leash. She sometimes likes to play with the other dogs or chase a ball. Wendy also likes to sit in a lap or snooze in a dog bed. At night she prefers to sleep with her people and settles in for a good sleep all night. If you insist, she will sleep in a dog bed too. Wendy is housebroken and does well as long as she is taken out first thing in the morning, as soon as you get home in the evening, and before bedtime. She will use a pee pad if needed.
Wendy gets along well with other dogs and although she barks at cats on our walks, she doesn't pay much attention to them when they are up close. She has not been around young children, but is a good natured girl and would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her.
If you are looking for a friendly little ray of sunshine, Wendy is the girl for you!
More about Wendy...NC
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
