Hi, my name is Charlie. I am a diamond in the rough! I am the sweetest guy you would ever want to have as a “Forever” companion once I get to know you. My previous owners didn’t socialize me so I’m a little cautious to let the real me out. If you are gentle with me and give me time to trust you - I will be the best dog ever. My Foster Mom has four doxies I am learning to play with. I get along with all dogs and cats and have NO food aggression. I enjoy going outside through the doggie door and the yard is completely fenced in to keep me safe. I love to cuddle on laps, nap on the back of the coach and snuggle under blankets with my foster siblings. I would do best in a home with affection and kindness- experienced Dachshund owners will know me best. I tend to be a little skittish and I frighten easily, but am food motivated. I think I would do better if I had another doxie companion to chum around with. I don’t think I like being around children – they move “too fast and make me nervous”.
Once I get comfortable in a home – I am very relaxed and happy. I like playing with toys and my foster sisters & brother. I enjoy car rides and sleeping in the BIG bed with everyone. I do bark some when I get nervous- but don’t most Dachshunds? I am looking for my Forever Home- the Home and family who is willing to take the time and help me get over my insecurities and social isolation. If you adopt me- I will love you and be your BEST Friend for “Life”. What more could you want?

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
