BEING FOSTERED IN MIDDLE TN......

Sweet Bailey Boy came from a home where he had been forced to live outdoors his whole life, accompanied by two large dogs that overpowered him when it came to dinner time. He weighs 12 1/2 pounds and is five years old. His former owners surrendered him, emaciated & HW +, and very nervous, but now he is healthy (heart worm negative) and happy. He does well with other dogs, but does enjoy his 1-on-1 time immensely. He has also been around cats and has never even acknowledged them. In addition, Bailey has been around children as young as 4 and has proven himself to be incredibly well-mannered and patient. Bailey’s biggest joy in life is his mini tennis ball, which he will chase as long as it is thrown…literally. He likes to keep his ball with him at all times, sleeping with it in his kennel at night, and hiding it in corners and couch cushions to ensure it is safe during the day. He is happy to cuddle in a lap (loves to snuggle up by your neck), but is also independent at times. He is well-behaved on a leash, and enjoys long walks. Due to being outdoors for his entire life, potty-training is a newer concept, but he is progressing quickly with this.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
