BIO:

UPDATE:

Lucy needs time to warm up to both men and women. She is a very calm dog except when it’s time to eat(THAT IS  her favorite pastime) so no food off the table or over feeding for Lucy. She needs to continue to lose the weight she needs to lose so she can be slim and trim.

She loves to snuggle but prefers to sleep by herself in her crate. She would not be good with children and maybe only grandchildren that visit occasionally.

Lucy is a sweet girl and needs a last forever home. That can be another 8-9 yrs so please consider her!

Lucy #8 was an owner surrender, they were too busy for Lucy.  When Lucy came into rescue she was very confused and didn’t handle having a lot of foster brothers and sisters. You could tell she had been an only dog and not gotten much exercise. The first thing we did was put her on a diet and she’s lost some weight but still needs to lose another pound  and a half.

Lucy is housebroken and will go to the door to be let out or go out the doggie door. At night she sleeps in her crate with the door open in the bedroom and she is as quiet as a church mouse while in her crate. During the day we can go away and not crate her and she is fine.

Lucy just needs a family that is willing to hold her in their lap for down time and to let her be near her people for the rest of her life without fear of being surrendered to rescue. Please consider Lucy! She’s shy at first but if you give her time to come to you, she’ll do just fine. She’s gone through a lot of changes in a short time but she’s adjusting well.

She even likes to play a little. She will come with her crate, bed and a few toys.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
