When her owner couldn't be located Autumn was taken to the local animal shelter and AADR was contacted. Autumn had a lot of fleas when she was found, so she has some irritated skin and missing hair on her back. Since she has been in her foster home her skin has started to clear up and her hair is growing back. Some flea prevention and good quality dog food has really made a difference for her.
Autumn is filled with enthusiasm for everything and likes to be part of whatever is going on. She is very friendly with the people and other dogs that she meets. She walks well on a leash and loves strolls around the neighborhood and rides in the car. Autumn likes tochase a tennis ball and even brings it back most of the time. She is a fun, easy going girl and would be a great pet for a family with children. She gets excited when she sees squirrels and cats in the yard, but up close she is fine with cats. Although she enjoys activity, she settles down nicely and snoozes quietly in her bed all night. She had a few accidents when she first arrived, but now that she has figured out the routine is doing very well with her house breaking. She is crate trained, but because she is so well behaved she is allowed to be free in the house.
If you are looking for a cheerful companion who will keep you smiling, Autumn is the girl for you.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
