BIO:
If you are looking for a devoted little buddy, Elliot is your man! This little charmer has stolen the heart of his foster mom and he in return, loves his human. Being quite the little cuddler and love bug, Elliot is always within “touching distance” just in case there are hugs and kisses being dispensed. Although an estimated 10 yrs old, he is energetic and is always ready for a walk or a run in his fenced backyard. This little guy loves to “run like the wind” after being released from “prison” (crate) even after just a short period of confinement.
Elliot is a “Chiweenie”, a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. His owner surrendered him to a high kill shelter in Alabama where his chances of making it out alive were very slim. Elliot had several teeth extracted when he had his initial medical/dental exam at AADR . This gives his face a cute little “grandpa” expression. He is a healthy little pup with a positive attitude.
Elliot eats soft food and snacks. He is certainly not a picky eater. He loves his peanut butter, soft fruit (bananas, peaches or mangos), and frozen treat snacks. He rides well in the car and walks well on a leash. He crates easily and has not shown any destructive behaviors. Elliot generally gets along well with his foster siblings both male and female but does exhibit some food aggression toward the other pups if he thinks they are trying to get his food. He can be jealous when it comes to his human and will show his displeasure by growling at his siblings but will stop when corrected. He would probably be happiest in a home where he is the center of attention.
Elliott loves being close to his human, belly rubs, chow, snacks, napping in the recliner, helping in the garden, sleeping in the big bed and, I think I mentioned, running like the wind.
Please consider giving Elliot the forever home he deserves. He is a little bitty guy with a ton of personality, charm, and love to share!
=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
