NICKI was found in the middle of a busy road here in Lewisburg, TN. She was picked up by the husband of the Sec for Dr. Story. From the looks of her she has been either a stray for a long time or very neglected. She is about 3-5 lbs under-weight. Some of her teeth were cracked when the dental was done. We aren't sure if she suffered from physical abuse or just neglect. Lucky for her and us she was not heartworm positive but she did need extensive dental work done and is now on vitamins to get her back up to her ideal weight and get her coat looking soft and shiny. She really is a sweet girl but seemed kind of lost like she didn't know where or why she was where she was. She has settled down now and enjoying two square meals a day of good quality dog food. She is very sweet gets along with the other dogs here and is not aggressive in any way. She loves to sleep in one of the many doggie beds and likes to wander the fenced in yard. NICKI would love it if you would adopt her and give her a new home she can call her own. We don't know about cats or kids but think she do well in a home with other dogs and possibly older kids 12+. She is UTD on all shots, heartworm negative and on Interceptor and Frontline.

Good with Dogs
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
