BIO:

UPDATE on Odin: Odin has recently had some back pain and he is currently receiving laser therapy. We are thrilled to report that the laser therapy has been very successful! Odin also responds very well to a heated crate pad and rest. Please email his foster mom for more details about Odin’s back issues! Love and attention will go a long way with Odin as he will do anything for a belly rub! He is such a wonderful dog and he will make a great addition to the right family!

Odin is a handsome, loving little guy! He loves to snuggle and he adores belly rubs! He likes to sleep in the big bed with his humans if possible, but will also sleep in a crate nearby as long as it’s nice and comfy inside. He is cautious of strangers and will bark at first, but he warms up quickly. Odin is quite the hunter/explorer! He loves to walk along the fence and search the yard for bunnies! If he sees one in the yard, he will chase it out!

Odin gets along very well with other dogs and children (over 5 years old). We believe that Odin would do fine in a home with a cat, but we have not yet confirmed this as there are no cats in his foster home. He has become best buddies with his foster dad and he likes to go wherever his foster dad goes!

Last year, Odin had a back issue that was resolved with rest and medication. He is doing great now! Please email his foster mom for more details. Odin will need to go to a home where his weight will be closely watched, he will not be allowed to jump from furniture, and he will not be expected to climb more than 4 stairs daily. These things are key in maintaining a Dachshund’s back health and they’re imperative for Odin going forward since he has had an issue with his back in the past!

Odin also has some allergies and will need to be kept on a grain-free diet.

Odin will make a great pet and very much deserves to go to a home where he will get all the love and attention possible! If you think that Odin would be the perfect addition to your family, please submit an application to adopt him today!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
