BIO: Luannie came from a MO puppymill when the owner decided to shut down her operation due to her health issues. She got rid of most of her stock except for the ones that she contracted AADR about and Luannie was one of those.
There was a mix up on her paperwork and we think that Luannie is really younger than the age started but we can’t be sure. She could be as young as 4 yrs.
She has been completely vetted including a dental and now she’s ready for her forever home. She is doing very very well on her housebreaking skills and working hard on leash training. The adopter would need to know that she’ll have to continue to work with her but she’s a quick study. She wants to please and treats help a LOT. She really needs a fenced in yard and another dachshund or two to help her learn to be a pet and learn the ropes of the new home.
Help LuAnnie to put the past behind her and become the pet she so desperately wants to be. She will give you more love and devotion than you could ever ask for.
Update:
LuAnnie is doing great. She is very cuddly and loving. Sleeping with Murphy her foster brother and foster Mom and Dad every night. She loves her foster brothers and sister and learning how to do many things by following their lead right down to TV time and goodnight time, and potty time. When she first came to stay she was a very frighten and confused little girl. She had no idea what stairs were. After only one day she caught right on though by following her foster brothers and sister. Now she is a pro. We could tell she has a lot to learn so she'll need a patient family to help her learn how to live in the world outside of a kennel. She doesn't bark much at all only when someone knocks on the door.
LuAnnie has finally learned it's OK to run around and kick up her heels. It's awesome to watch her zipping around the house with her tail wagging and eyes sparkling, almost looks like she's got a smile on her face. She also plays very well with the other dogs we have. She like cats and kids 6 yrs and up that know respect for animals. She will sit on their lap and loves to be petted for hours .Children younger that that maybe too much for her as she still needs a quiet enviroment because she is still learn about the world outside of her kennel. She gave her first kiss to a humane on 5/23/2013. It took a bit of time to coax her on this because I'm sure she'd never done it before. She will be a great addition to the right family and likes to follow at the heels of her special person. She does great on car rides too. LuAnnie is a wonderful dog for sure I hope her forever family comes soon so she can have the life she deserves.
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
