BIO:  Ginger and Coco were dumped at a kill shelter in KY and the owners didn’t even give the shelter their names but because they were chipped we were able to find out their real names and birth dates.

Talk about sweet girls! We think they are mother and daughter and very bonded that’s why we won’t separate them, where one is you’ll find the other one.

They are getting along great with the other dogs in the house, Coco seems just a bit more timid than Ginger her mom. She also acts like she was possibly hit but still they will wag their tail for you and come up to you when called. Ginger really wants in your lap but Coco(younger one) is more content to be on the floor. They really have not shown any interest in a doggie bed but more happy to lay on the bare floor but we think that they’ll get used to them, maybe they just never had the luxury of a doggie bed.

They love to be out in the yard especially if you are out there with them and they really want to be in any room that you are in or go into. Such sweet girls and we really don’t think they had the best life before coming into rescue but that is where YOU can change all that for them. Please think about adopting these two special girls and giving them the home they so deserve. They were already spayed and chipped but did need a dental and lost several teeth. They can chew hard food but we have them on a soft diet until the gums heal from the teeth they lost.

Don’t lose out on these sweet girls, apply today!

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
