BIO:
Izzy gets along well with other dogs. She loves playing with my two Westies and although she has been standoffish upon meeting other dogs for the first time, she has never shown any aggressive behaviors toward them. Izzy loves to run around outside and she will come inside when called. She has not been seen around cats.
Izzy would not do well with very small children. Children over 12, if educated about the proper way to interact with a frightened and scared dachshund, would be okay. Izzy has never made any movement to suggest that she would bite anyone, she will run away or lay down and roll onto her back in a very submissive position. As Izzy becomes comfortable and secure, she takes little steps forward to show you that she is adjusting. At first Izzy will only run or roll onto her back, then she will start to come to you and sit, slowly, Izzy will allow you to snuggle with her. She loves to snuggle, once she feels it is a safe thing to do.
Izzy likes to play with toys in the house, squeaky toys are best. Izzy has a healthy appetite. She cleans her bowl after every meal. She will also try to eat any one else's food! She enjoys all kinds of treats and is learning to sit to receive one.
Izzy is one of the prettiest dachshunds I have ever known. Her fur is very soft and has high and low lights. Her belly hair is growing in very light in color, almost a strawberry blonde and fine, from where she was shaved for spaying. Izzy's eye's are light brown, almost amber, and very expressive. Izzy will lick your hand, but she is not a face kisser.
Izzy needs a guardian who will take lots of time to reassure Izzy that she is safe, loved and in her forever home. She is still very leery of new people and will not let you cuddle until she feels safe. She needs more practice walking on a leash and she needs more socialization (after she is comfortable in her forever home) outside of the home to overcome her fear of humans. Izzy does not like cigarette smoke or its after smells. I would suggest that her forever guardians are non-smokers.
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
