BIO:

I was rescued by a good Samaritan from a barn in NY.  I was living is a barn with 4 other dogs like me in the freezing cold.  AADR offered to take us all and found my foster home where I was cleaned up, saw the vet and received all the care I needed.  The best part of my new life is the warm comfy bed and great food.  My coat is now so shiny and soft.  I get along great with my Foster Mom’s other Doxies.

The vet determined I was around 1yr based on my clean pearly white teeth.  I  am very playful and full of energy like a puppy.  I do however love to cuddle on a lap and will seek you out.  I love my meals and will chow down very quickly so my foster Dad splits my meals so I slow down.  I am working on my potty habits and am trying really hard to potty where I am supposed to but like a young dog I can have accidents.  If I am kept on a regular schedule I do well. I am treat oriented and am looking to please.  I wear a belly band in the house but hopefully now that I’m neutered  I can stop that soon.

I love to take walks and will look forward to daily walks-it help exert some of my energy.  I sleep in a crate here and really don’t mind it.  I may whine for a few minutes but will relax and go to sleep for the night.  I like the company of other dachshunds so a home with other dogs would be great.  I like to run around when outside so a fenced in yard would be my special request.

So if you’re looking for a special little dog to fill your home with love and companionship I’m that guy. Please consider giving me my forever home!!!!!

More about Alex...NH

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
