BIO: Kissy is a sweet little lady who found herself at the animal shelter when her owner passed away. Unlike her name suggests, Kissy is not a licker, but she is a super sweetheart. She is a pretty light red color with some silver on her face and paws.
Kissy likes to lounge in a dog bed with her blanket, sit in a lap, play with the other dogs, and go for walks. She walks well on a leash and keeps her eyes peeled for cats and squirrels on our neighborhood strolls. She gets along with the other dachshund and dachshund mixes in the house, male and female, young and old. She has not been around cats, but can be evaluated with a cat if needed. Kissy is friendly with both men and women. She would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that a small dog needs to be treated gently and allowed her own space.
Kissy is housebroken as long as she is taken outside first thing in the morning, as soon as I get home from work, and before bedtime. She will use a pee pad if she can't get outside. Kissy is crate trained, but because she is so well mannered, she is allowed free range of the house. She does like to go in a crate and nap sometimes.
Kissy lost 24 teeth when she had her dental cleaning, but feels much better and has no trouble eating her food. I soak it in water a little before dinner time and she gobbles it right down.
Unfortunately Kissy's previous owner did not give her monthly heartworm prevention and she is heartworm positive. Although Kissy is in excellent health, because of her age it was decided to use a less aggressive treatment. Kissy gets a monthly Heartguard chewable. If this regimen is continued each month, she should be heartworm free within a year. She began this treatment in March and her adopter will receive the remaining year's supply of Heartguard.
If you are looking for a pretty little lady to keep you company Kissy would be the perfect choice.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
