Hi everyone my name is Abby and I'm 3 years old. I came to this place called rescue as my foster mom calls it because my family said I was pottying inside the house and they didn't have time for me. When I first came here I was very scared and didn't understand what was going on. When my foster mom tried to feed me dog food I didn't want it, I only wanted people food. I guess that's the reason I need to lose a little bit of weight. I really don't understand why, I just figure it's more of me to love but my foster mom says it's bad for my health so I guess she knows best. I really love my foster home and they treat me like their own but my foster mom says she loves me enough to let me go so I figure I love her enough to let her go too. My foster mom says I'm rambling on so she's going to take over from here, but before she does, please find it in your heart to give me a forever home so my foster mom can help save others like me.
Abby is a precious girl that loves all humans and animals. She's very playful, but it takes a while for her to come out of her shell. She is potty trained but you need to be vigilant in taking her outside she doesn't always tell you she has to go out. She's a talker and if you talk to her she talks back. She loves to sit in a warm lap and lay in the big bed if you let her, but is also content on a doggie bed with a warm blanket. She's great with kids as well but needs to be in a home where someone is home most of the time or possibly only works part time because she doesn't like it when her person/persons are not around. She would make the perfect pet for someone who works from home or is retired.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
