Willie is a Red Bone Coonhound mix. We haven’t the foggiest idea what he is mixed with. He was rescued along with his Mom and 4 siblings from a shelter in the South.

They had been wandering the streets with their Mom. How Mom ever kept them alive is a mystery. They were all starving and had the usual health problems.

We received the pups at 10 weeks old and they were kept them in isolation for a month. Our Vet gave them a clean bill of health on Feb 26th. Willie’s poor little life started out on the wrong foot, but now he is doing great. He was 14 weeks old on Feb 26th and weighs about 17 lbs. Because of the horrible start of his life he hasn’t had much socialization, he is paper-trained.

Whoever adopts this beautiful baby will need time and a soft heart to teach him. Willie would do well with another dog to play with. He should have a fenced yard, after all he is a hound and is led by his nose. We don’t want him getting lost while he is tracking a squirrel.

We are not sure how big he will get. Our best guess is around 50 lbs if he takes after his Mom. He is tall just like her Mom. Willie is Micro Chipped.

If you are interested in adopting PLEASE contact his foster Mom pooch@twcny.rr.com

THIS DOG IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THROUGH Gertie’s Small Dog Rescue. AN ADOPTION PROCESS IS REQUIRED INCLUDING AN APPLICATION, REFERENCE CHECK, VET CHECK AND A HOME VISIT WILL BE CONDUCTED BEFORE BEING APPROVED.

More about Willie

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
