BIO:

Hector is as long on love as he is in body!  He only wants to be with his favorite people.  He loves to snuggle and cuddle and wants to be as close to you as possible.  He is very playful and enjoys his games of fetch as well as walks.  He is very cooperative on a leash with his stylish blue harness and enjoys watching the birds and squirrels that he finds when outside.  I have not tried to crate him as I heard from the person who originally found him that he does not do well in a crate at all, but he is very happy being gated in an area and has not bothered my house when we have left him with our other dogs.  He gets along well with my other daschunds (5 of varying ages) and I have heard that he'll tolerate cats but he does not like larger dogs...especially males.  He is VERY smart and learns commands easily.  He is nearly house trained and given time and patience will easily adapt to going outside.  He is shy but very friendly and though he shows some hesitancy towards lots of people approaching him, he is easily won over and will immediately show love.  This guy is a keeper!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
