BIO:

Meet Duke, Duke of Earl as we like to call him.

Duke is a very special little boy. He was surrendered to a rural shelter when his family decided they could no longer financially support him. The shelter called us & off we went to pick him up. When we arrived we were shocked by Duke’s beauty. He is just SO handsome & gets compliments everywhere he goes. Not only is he handsome, but he is such a good boy too! He marked on his first day in his foster home, but after he was shown the doggie door he was a pro. No more accidents (or marking now that he is neutered). Duke is such a HAM & LOVES the camera. Duke is good with children however small children make him nervous so this is why we feel he would do best in a home with older kids. Duke is ok with cats, but if a cat runs from him he will chase it. He doesn’t chase to be mean, just to play. He walks great on a leash & is a perfect gentleman in his crate. His foster home can not come up with a negative about him, he is just a happy go-lucky boy that wants to be loved.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of  CT or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures. We are working hard to get approved to bring dogs into the state of NH and until that happens we cannot adopt to anyone in that state either.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

More about Duke5..VT

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
