Hello, my name is Fancy and I have recently come to be one of the foster kids with AADR.  I was surrendered by my previous owners because I had broken my leg and they could not afford the surgery to repair it. The rescue took care of my surgery though and I am almost ready to go to my new home.  I am excited about my second chance at a loving home and would like to tell you a little bit about myself.  I am fully house trained and never have accidents in the house!  I have been told that is quite a feather in my cap as far as dachshunds go.  Although I am a mix, I am a very beautiful one, if I do say so myself.  I love other dogs and love to play with them and I have a lot of fun playing with my foster brother at my foster home.  I do love a good nyla bone or chew toy as well, it keeps my teeth pretty and white! I am just a little bit shy when I first meet you but after just a short time I am like your best friend.  I love to sit in the lap of my human a whole lot!  I love that warm fuzzy feeling it gives me to know I am loved.  I would make a great companion and I not much trouble at all!  I play and then I like to take a nap in my bed or in your lap if you will let me.  I really enjoy TV time at night when I can snuggle up and relax beside you or in your lap.  If you give me a chance, I promise you won't regret adopting me. 

One more thing, although I am not mean, small children do make me nervous.  Kids 8 or older are okay because they are calmer and handle me much like an adult human would.  I much prefer kids in this age bracket. 

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
