BIO

Kelley is an extremely happy and friendly little man.  Mr. Kelley (or Kelley to his friends) came to us when his previous mommy passed from this world.  He was staying with other family members who were not able to keep him.  Despite all of this he is one of the sweetest little guys you would ever want to meet.  When he first showed up he was a little shy.  He spent the first day or so sniffing around the place and getting use to his new surroundings.

Once he settled in he took to his new home like a duck to water.  He did really well with the foster brother that was around at the time as well.  He is completely happy to sleep or lay around in his blankets and bed when you are moving around or sitting around doing your own thing.  He loves to snuggle with you on the couch when you settle down to watch TV or just to relax during the evening.   While you are in the kitchen getting breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack ready he will be right there with you watching ready to help clean up any spills that might happen.

He does really great on his leash and gets really excited about going on his walkers.  He will stand by patiently for the snap of the leash and then he is ready to lead you to the door so that the walking can get started.  Once outside he moves to take care of his business first so that he can enjoy sniffing all the sniffs that are out there.  He doesn’t bark or show any aggression towards any other folks who are out enjoying the day or evening air.  While he will stop and give a few glances towards a kitty or another dog that is strolling about, he has never shown any tendency towards wanting to be aggressive or mean spirited towards them.

He does not really seem to enjoy car rides that much.  While he is not a problem while in his little crate or the seat next to you, it is pretty obvious that he would rather be somewhere else and have the car ride over with.  He does not particularly like being picked up.  He loves to sit on your lap or lay next to you; he just doesn’t really like being picked up.  He tolerates it, but again it’s not one of his favorite things.

Be ready to sit down and give him a bunch of attention when you come back in from being gone.  It doesn’t matter if you have been gone a few minutes or a couple of hours, Kelley still greats you each time with the same amount of enthusiasm.  During the day he is not crated and there has never been a single accident in the floor when I get back.  The only time an accident occurs is when you aren’t watching him for the signs that it’s time to go outside.

Kelly has been up rooted from the home that he thought was going to be his forever.  This wasn’t his fault.  All he wants is to give someone all of the love and kisses they can handle.  In return, he only wants to be loved and protected back.  This little middle-aged guy doesn’t ask for much and give more than his weight in love and devotion back to you.  If you are looking for a new best friend, then for the right person, Kelley may be your doxie.

We will not adopt into the state of  CT or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures. We are working hard to get approved to bring dogs into the state of NH and until that happens we can not adopt to anyone in that state either.

More about Kelley...FL

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
