BIO:  Bela and Maggie came in from Birmingham, AL where they were surrendered to a good Samaritan so they wouldn’t have to go to the shelter when the owners moved. The good Samaritan thought they’d stand a better chance of getting adopted is they surrendered them to a dachshund rescue.

When Bela first came in she was fearful of the foster mom but took right up with the foster dad but after a couple days of settling in she was fine with foster mom too.

They came with their own crate and pillow but since they are not bonded and will be adopted separate then the crate and bed will go with Bela cause she would need something familiar more than Maggie.

With all that said if you give Bela a chance she’s a wonderful, sweet girl. She loves laps, sleeping in the big bed and laying on the couch by herself. She is housebroken and uses the doggie door but also will walk on a leash to potty.

I would not trust her around children under the age of 14 only because doesn’t do well with strangers and needs time to warm up.

Bela is very well housebroken and would do well either in a fenced in yard or having to be walked on a leash to potty. Give this little girl a chance to win over your heart. She would be great with another dog or by herself as long as she had you to love.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of  CT or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures. We are working hard to get approved to bring dogs into the state of NH and until that happens we can not adopt to anyone in that state either.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

More about BELA..AL

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
