BEING FOSTERED IN NY STATE.....

Norman is a sweetie. He is crate trained but love to sleep in the big bed. Loves going for rides as long as he can put his head in the wind. He walks very well on a leash. He wants to be with his people all the time. When he is excited he will roll around on the furniture, on his back with his front two paws together. Loves his belly rubbed. He has a few small bald spots(from a past skin infection) but they add to his character. When he begs for food he will stand on his back legs and paw at you with the front two legs together. So cute. If he wants to be petted he will push your arm up with his nose. He also dances in circles to play.
Norman came to me from a family who could no longer care for him. He is an absolutly wonderful dog. He has gorgeous markings. He has excellent manners. He is housebroken and will tell you when he has to go out. He does ok on a leash, but he does pull. A harness would help this tremendously. Norman does now get along with other dogs but loves loves loves for you to give him attention and we figure that's because the first 10yrs of his life he was outside and didn't have much human inter-action. Because of his long coat, Norman will need to be brushed often. He behaves very well for his baths and he doesn't mind being brushed. He loves to be close to someone. His favorite spot is by your feet. He loves the outdoors and taking long walks. He doesn't look or act his age at all. He gets as excited as the younger ones here and sometimes I forget he's older! He will make someone a great best friend and buddy.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
