BIO:

Mateo is a happy, fun-loving little boy that needs a forever home willing to give him lots of love, activity, and basic training as he grows to be a young man. He has a loving temperament, is well socialized, and gets along well with all his foster brothers and sisters. Mateo loves to play and enjoys having a fenced yard to rip and run, chase chipmunks, and burn off some energy. He is leashed trained, but will need patience and consistency to continue his good manners. If you don't have a fenced yard, be prepared to exercise him sufficiently for his age and/or take him to dog parks where he can enjoy puppyhood. Mateo is a good boy and has not had any potty accidents in the house. His new family must be willing to keep him on a schedule and train him with love, patience, praise and TREATS! He sleeps quietly in his crate at night and while his mom and dad are away without protest. So, he is well on his way to becoming a nicely behaved young gentleman.

Mateo still has some puppy energy and he will flourish with an active family. He loves kids, loves to play, and would enjoy having a playmate that appreciates his energy level Basic training classes would be a plus and he would love learning to please his people. Mateo is a dachshund mix and will be about 14-16 pounds at maturity. He is fully grown, but may fill out a bit more. Because he is a dachshund mix, he is a little more sturdy than a dachshunds in general and will be a super family pet. He's just waiting for a forever family to love him unconditionally.

We will not adopt into the state of  CT or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures. We are working hard to get approved to bring dogs into the state of NH and until that happens we can not adopt to anyone in that state either.

More about Mateo..NH

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
