Nathan is a very sweet boy who was surrendered because his person had a very sick family member and she could no longer take care of him.  He is a gentle boy who is looking for a loving family! Nathan is house trained and was raised with children and loves to lay at your feet or beside you. He is happy with a rub on the head and is not one to be held for for too long.  Just a quick kiss and he is ready to get back down.  He will eat his food and then try to eat everyone else's as well so he needs to be fed separate.  Not many dachshunds who would not like to have a couple of extra bowls of food!  Nathan chases the cat so he would be best in a home without cats.  He is very active and  acts much younger than his eight years.  He loves to go for walks and check out the neighborhood. Nathan loves to hunt small critters and  will try to dart out the door to hunt so he really needs a home with a fence. This sweet boy has many years of love to give so if you are looking for a fun loving happy boy for a companion, he might just be the boy for you!

You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
