Update:

Tater has absolutely bloomed in her foster home. While shy and easily startled upon arrival, she has made tremendous progress in coming out of her shell. She loves playing with her foster brother and sister. They incessantly romp and roll and cavort, and she is even the ringleader most of the time! She was very timid when she first arrived, but she now actively seeks attention and even is the first in line to be petted and loved on! She has a very sweet disposition and a tremendous personality and loves to be loved on. When you look into those deep, soulful eyes you can't help but be immediately mesmerized and drawn in by them. She cutely snores while she sleeps - it is rather humorous to hear her and she constantly makes her foster mom laugh by this :)

She is easily startled by loud noises or sudden movements, so a home without small children would probably be best. There is not a cat in her foster home, but when around them before she did ignore them. She is crate trained, and actually loves to sleep in her "den". She is working on house training. She is very food motivated, but is not aggressive or protective of her food at all. She would do best in a fenced yard.

Tater is doing very well in her foster home.  She is still timid when she meets new people, but doesn't take long to come looking for some affection.  She is easily startled by loud noises and sudden movements, so would be happiest in a home with no small children.  When we meet children on our walks she will go to them for attention if they are petting the other dogs.  She ignores cats and gets along well with other dogs, large and small.  Tater walks well on a leash and sits and waits for her food to be set down.  She would do best with a fenced yard.  She is very well housebroken when she can go out in the yard, but is nervous about doing her business when she is on a leash.  She does use a pee pad when she can't get outside.  Tater sometimes sleeps in a dog bed and sometimes likes to get up on the big bed.  It doesn't take long to earn her trust and once you have you will have a loving and devoted friend.  If you are looking for a little sweet tater to add to your family, look no further!

We will not adopt into the state of  CT or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures. We are working hard to get approved to bring dogs into the state of NH and until that happens we can not adopt to anyone in that state either.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
