BIO:

Kaytee was found as a stray and picked up by the local Animal Control Officers; her eyes were matted closed, most of her fur missing and she appeared to have been bred several times.  When AADR was notified we immediately picked up this precious little girl and took her straight to the vet to relieve her discomfort and get her on the road to recovery.

Kaytee is such a sweet little girl who runs to greet all the people that she meets.  She is a little shy and cowers, sometimes rolling on her back, but she is still happy to meet everyone and is so anxious to be loved.   Little Kaytee was used up by her previous owners, they bred her so many times her little body could no longer carry puppies.  In addition, she never received any care for herself and when she had her dental she had 10 teeth extracted.  So sad that such a sweet girl like Kaytee was just used to produce puppies and then thrown away when she could no longer do that.  But we don’t think that is true, because Kaytee is begging for life as a normal dachshund receiving love and attention … and like all dachshunds, Kaytee loves to eat!!  In addition, she loves her stuffed animals and bones.  Kaytee does well in her crate and tries to do her very best at housebreaking as long as she goes out regularly.

Kaytee currently lives with male and female dogs, she gets along with them all but even for a little 9lb girl her prey drive is all dachshund so we recommend no cats, birds, rabbits, etc.

Kaytee wants a family of her very own that will love her, care for her like every dog deserves.  Are you ready to add this special and very precious little girl to your family?  Please email her foster mom with any questions you have!

More about Kaytee..TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
