BIO:
Coco was found in a school yard with two other Doxies. AADR agreed to bring her into rescue to find her a furever home. She is about 2 years old, friendly towards other dogs and loves to play ball. She is somewhat over weight and on a diet to bring her girlish figure back. Coco was a little timid when we first got her. Very unsure of her surroundings and didn’t know what to think of the other 4 Doxies we have running around. Since that time she has been to the dog park and did very well after she knew it was “OK to play” with others. She sleeps cuddled up on the bed with us and our other 4 Doxies with no problem. She lets you know when she wants out, drags her food bowl over to you to tell you it’s time to eat and plays well with others as long as they don’t mess with HER ball. She loves to love you up and will play, play, play. After dinner she is perfectly content on being a lap dog while we watch TV. She does have a little separation anxiety when I go to work, a whine or a whimper when I am getting ready to leave. Her sad eyes make you feel so bad that you are leaving her but when you return she is soooooooo happy to see you. Since she has been spayed she has become even more loving and affectionate.
Coco would do best with another dog about the same size. She actually does great with all 4 of our other Doxies. We haven’t had her around cats so I can’t give any information there. We do have birds in the house and Coco will watch them if she is in my lap but has never given any indication that she wants to investigate them.
We have now been approved to adopt and transport into the state of Massachusetts but there are guidelines the organization and adopters must follow. If adopting and before filling out the adoption form please e mail aadrpresident@gmail.com to get the guidelines and expenses that must be followed.
More about CoCo 2...CA
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
