BIO:  Poppy came from a kill shelter in southern TN, left in the drop box with a note that they could no longer care for her.

She was very very scared in the shelter and snapped at anyone that tried to touch her. We were contacted because she was not adoptable through them. So we picked her up and realized she just has had so much trauma in her life right now that she’s only acting out of fear.

We got her home and gave her time to settle in. We realized that she seems to be more attached to the foster dad or at least the one that’s home more or feeds.

She doesn’t mind the crate but is fine out of a crate when left too. She gets along with all the foster brothers and sisters but doesn’t interact with them too much so she could have been an only dog in her previous home.

She will need time to adjust to her new home so she can’t be rushed.

Because she appears to be afraid of any change we suggest no kids in the home or grandskids that visit but know how to leave a dog alone that is not comfortable with being rushed. We’d love for Poppy to go to a home with a fenced in yard where she can enjoy just walking or running in the yard.

Please contact foster mom if you have any further questions about this sweet mini girl.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about POPPY...TN

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
