Hi! My name’s Oscar, the Oscar Meyer Weiner dog, and I’m searching for my new furever home. My foster mom says it won’t take long because I’m the smartest most loving puppy she’s ever met. Here are some of my favorite things to do every day. I love playing with my doggie friends, snuggling on the couch, going for walks or runs in the dog park, meeting new people, playing fetch and giving bear hugs and kisses. I don’t like when you have to leave, but I won’t complain when easily bribed with a nice new bone. I will sleep in my crate like a good boy, but I’d much rather snuggle under the covers and keep you warm. I like to sleep on my back with all four in the air; mom says I’m just like a little teddy bear you can hold on to. I haven’t had many accidents since I’m really good at sitting by the door; it’s my way of asking to go out. I love to eat almost anything however, I do have good table manners. I don’t make a lot of noise unless the doorbell rings or someone walks a big dog past our window. I guess you could say I’m just an overall outgoing kid who loves to try new things. Rides in the car are so much fun, I love going to the pet store where lots of little kids give me all the attention. I’ve even made friends with my foster family’s pet rat! I know how to sit, stay, and lay down, but I have so many more tricks to learn. Right now we are working on shake and roll over. As you can see, I will fit right in anywhere. My foster parents are taking me to see Santa Paws next week and I already know what I’m gonna ask him for. All I want is a nice family to take me home and love me forever!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
