SCARLETT came to us from a shelter in AL where her owners dumped her when they didn't want her. She had a wonderful home with a woman that loved her but the mommy passed away and one of the family members took her. While there she lost her sight, they said suddenly but we think it was gradually but they weren't very attentive to her so didn't notice. We took her to an eye specialist and they said that she does have detached retina's, so no surgery will help her. She does have dry eye that will need drops twice a day. Now with all that said, Scarlett has done wonderful in her foster home and with all the foster dogs except two under 10lbs fosters, we think since she can't see that her prey drive maybe kicking in and she sees them as prey. All the other dogs she is great with. She can find her way out the doggie door and up and down steps to go potty. She will wander the house and find you no matter where you are. We are looking for a very special home for Ms Scarlett, one that will love her and care for her the way she should be and accept her blindness as just a normal thing. It sure doesn't bother her. She is UTD on all shots and is heartworm neg. and on Interceptor and Frontline. Please give Ms Scarlett the special home that she needs and craves. Out of State and Canidian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arranements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Is Not Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
