BIO:
Chase is a tiny, tiny boy but has a big personality. He’s confident and adventurous. Chase first came to us when we had our two boy dachshunds and two six month foster dachshunds. He watched them all so he could learn the ways of the dog. The two foster dogs have now gone onto their forever homes and we now have four puppies (approx. three months old) from another litter and Chase just loves it. He greeted each new dog with a huge open heart. In fact, Chase, true to form, inserted himself into this new foster litter by piling on top of all of them when they go to sleep. He has become one of their pack.
Chase came to us from someone who was breeding their dachshunds. Chase was born without a tail and is, by breeder standards, considered not adoptable/profitable. He was surrendered to AADR.
Like all dachshunds, Chase is bright. He learns quickly. It has been difficult given the number of puppies to do one-on-one training for special commands. He is 99% potty trained (one of the five fosters will occasionally have an accident but I can never catch who it is). He uses the doggy door. He is crate trained. He is respectful. Training is important to having a low maintenance dog. He will require additional training on sit, stay, leave it and other commands that lead to a loving house pet. Like many dachshunds, Chase is highly motivated by food so training results should be seen relatively quickly.
Chase needs a yard/park to play in with a human/family who leaves him for at most, four hours a day. Chase will do best with another dog although it isn’t required. He may be prone to whining without another dog to keep him company.
