BIO:

Mila is an affectionate and unusual looking dog-she is blue and white with light brown eyes. Blue and white piebalds are very rare, even breeders can’t predict when a mating will produce one. She was abandoned with her puppies when her owners moved, leaving her behind. (He must not have known what a rare find she is!) A kind neighbor picked her up and took the group to the animal shelter. I believe she may have been an outside dog, she did not know any commands and her manners were not good when we got her, but she is doing better and responding to simple commands. Mila is very food motivated and does not understand why our other dogs growl at her when she tries to take their food, toys, or bed. She is very sweet but just has never had to learn to share with other dogs. Her humans are very important to her, and she likes to play with them and her new Bobo. She loves to sleep in the big bed under the covers and wants to be right beside her people all the time. We have nicknamed her “Laundry Dog” because of how often we find her sleeping on top of the laundry. The neighborhood kids love her, and even when they get a little overly enthusiastic, she ever gets impatient with them, so she should be excellent with any age children.

Is Not Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
