BIO:

Bill is gentle and sweet and well behaved. He wants to please and is willing to learn anything to be able to please his owner.  He loves to hang out with other dogs yet also loves to be with his humans.  He is thrilled (yet respectful) when picked up, loves to play with toys and is just an all around joy to have at our home.

Bill is a joy.  He’s playful, ready to learn and wants to please.  Bill is working on respectful eating (eating slowly and not hopping up at the food dish) and learning basics like sit, stay and down.

Bill will be fine in a home with older children, but he may feel anxious with children younger than nine or very active children.  Bill loves to roam in the back yard and knows how to use the dog door but he really loves to be next to his human or to his canine pack members.   He loves to play (he’s a quiet play, not rambunctious) and he’s very smart.  He’ll enjoy games and activities that challenge him mentally…Alex Trebeck comes to mind.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
