Abbie is doing better and will probably be scared but with patience and you giving her time she'll adjust just fine. Better with woman than men but has warmed to the foster dad and likes to play with him.
Abbie 3 has a very sad story to tell. She is only 18 mos old and before coming into rescue she was flip 4 times on Craig’s List. NO dog should have 4 homes in their life-time let alone 4 homes in 18 mos. We don’t know her story but what we do know is she is scared of other dogs but with each passing day gets better, so we are saying a home with no other dogs or only one other. She was very scared when she came to our foster home but we just let her settle in, ignored her and put a puppy pad down and didn’t push her. She’s learning to trust her foster mom, she’s not sure about foster dad yet and after 2 mos still will not let foster dad pick her up but she will jump in his lap when he's watching TV and will let her feed her. The other fosters she is getting used to slowly. We are pretty sure something very bad happened to her when she went from home to home. We don’t want this to happen to her again so if you are not committed to helping her overcome her fears please do not even inquire about her. We want someone that knows she’s going to be a challenge and probably will take several months before she’s able to relax and settle in. WE WANT ONE MORE HOME TO BE HER LAST. She is fine in a crate and is not much of a barker but does like to be where her foster mom is. We think a home with a fenced in yard is best for this little girl. Are you up to the challenge of bringing her out of her shell?
update: Abbie has now been here for several months and she's fine with the other dogs and will engage in play with them. Foster dad is ok but foster mom is still her favorite. She loves to run and play in the fenced in yard so she has to have one. She will bark at people that go by on foot or bike. Likes to chase the birds and squirrels. She will have to come to you on her own but so very well worth it. Because she is so scared we are looking for a home locally or within driving distance of Nashville, TN.

More about Abbie 3..TN

Is Not Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
