BIO

Sandy was picked up as a stray so we don’t know anything about her first year of life. But I can say for certain that if you’re looking for a tiny little cuddle puppy, Sandy is the one! I do believe she would be happy to snuggle in a papoose against my chest all day long. Sandy is timid and rather unsure in new situations. She bonded to me quickly and makes sure I’m always in view (just in case she needs comforting in a big, scary world.) Sandy has one blue eye, which looks a little odd when it’s dark, but she doesn’t seem to have any issues with her vision as a result. Sandy is very food driven, so training her to do tricks should be a snap. The best I can tell she is at least almost housetrained, if not fully trained. No separation anxiety, despite her timid nature. She’s fascinated by the cat, but so far hasn’t been brave enough to get too close. She has a sweet temperament and is getting along well with my pack (male and female). This one won’t last long, so if you’re interested in Sandy you’d better get your application in quickly.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
