BIO:  

Maynard James Keenan is all that and a bag of chips!!!  He people-oriented, kid-dog, lap-dog, high-energy, etc, and then some- a very happy fun loving puppy.

He loves to be a puppy, chew on toys and an occasional shoe if left out.  He had distemper as a puppy and is making up for lost time getting to do and see everything all at one time. Maynard LOVES to pull the stuffing out of toys, he can't get enough and will sit quietly and make a mountain of fluff around himself like snow. He is SO cute!  Maynard LOVES, LOVES, LOVES, LOVES toys- squeaky toys are his favorite and then he likes big toys to drag around and pull the stuffing out of them.  Maynard is so goofy and has such a short attention span and can’t sit still; sometimes I get him to sit but not for long. He is learning sit and he knows “no” command.

When people come over Maynard wants to lick their feet, if you wear a dress or a skirt, Maynard will walk behind you and tug on it to get your attention.  Maynard LOVES to have his feet rubbed when he is sitting next to you and will fall asleep in a minute. He is such a cuddle bug and loves to be petted and rubbed on all over. He has the longest silky soft ears you have ever touched. He even likes his teethe brushed Maynard is VERY easy to brush his teeth with a finger brush. I started him right away as he likes to “kiss chew” on your fingers. If kept up he will always be very friendly and be very easy to keep his teeth clean and pearly white like they are as he thinks it is a game that he loves to play.
He love horses and is even learning to herd. He plays for hours on end with his 2 foster teenage human brothers.

Maynard definitely must have a fenced yard and be in a home where he can get lots of attention and ongoing training as he is still learning.  Maynard would be fine if he were the only dog if he got enough attention and exercise to keep him occupied or with another dog as a playmate. Maynard will find a playmate and play and play and play and play until they fall asleep in a heap.

If your heart and yard are big enough for Maynard, he would love to come home furever with you and kiss you always!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
