BIO:

Meet Nickolas---we call him Nick. He’s absolutely adorable and as sweet as his face is pretty—well, maybe we should say handsome! He came to AADR when he was found as a skinny little stray by animal control in a county in Alabama. Nick is now up-to-date on all vaccines, neutered, microchipped and is on heartworm prevention and looking for a forever home where he can blossom. He needs to gain maybe a pound or two more and is well on his way to his ideal weight.

Nick has a very sweet and submissive temperament, but is not skittish or shy. He just needs to know his forever home loves him unconditionally. Nick is quite the laid-back boy for a young dog and has great manners, knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. Nick has done beautifully with his house training manners, but will need someone prepared to encourage his good behavior positively. Nick is a sweet, sensitive boy and will never do well with scolding! Nick will do well as a family pet as long as children are old enough to respect a small dog—but he is not snippy or aggressive at all.

Nick will make a great companion for another dog and LOVES playing with his foster brother. Nick sleeps well in a crate at night and while his family is away and enjoys being out in the yard and soaking up sunshine. If you’re looking for a certified “Platinum Quality” snuggler with a lifetime of love and joy to share, get your application submitted right away---he’s a jewel and won’t last long! Feel free to email his foster mom with questions or to request additional pictures. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
