Cooper is a Courtesy Post. Please contact joanna.stanfield@stites.com for more information.

This is Cooper, a one to two year old dachshund who was recently found walking at the corner of Gallatin Road and Roosevelt in Madison. He had obviously been on his own or neglected for quite some time, as his ribs were showing at the time he was found. He has put on a few pounds since and is looking much healthier.

Cooper is very well-behaved and well-trained, responds to commands, is comfortable in a crate and with other animals, and was clearly someone's pet at some point in time. The person who found him had a small child and we were told that he does well with children. When he wants attention he sits on his hind legs and waves his front paws. He has an extremely sweet and loving personality, loves to be held and snuggled, and gets along very well with other dogs. He is very quiet, gentle and laid back. He was neutered last week and has now had all vaccinations and been given a clean bill of health from the vet.

We are fostering Cooper until we find a good home for him and our two dachshunds are already quite fond of him. We would keep him ourselves except that he has obviously never been around cats and our two cats have let us know that we need to find another place for him and quick. He comes with a new bed and blanket, collar and leash, food, treats, toys and rabies tags, and lots of love to give. An adoption fee of 100.00 to assure the he gets a great home and a home visit will be done. If you've been thinking of adding to your family, Cooper is the one for you.

If you would like to meet Cooper, please email Joanna Stanfield at joanna.stanfield@stites.com. And if you know someone who might be interested and would provide a good home for Cooper, please pass this on. Thanks!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
