BENNY was dumped in a shelter in KY by a person saying they found him as a stray. From the looks of his teeth and the chip that was never registered it’s believed that he came from one of the many puppymills in KY. We were able to save him from the shelter but we were not able to save his teeth. He lost all of them they were literally rotting out of his head so they all had to be removed and he was put on an antibiotic to clear up any infection that they caused. He has since learned to eat his soft food and his tongue may hang out a little but that just makes him all the more endearing. Benny is probably one of the sweetest and most submissive dogs I’ve had the pleasure of fostering. He would not hurt a flea and he’s so kind and gentle with every dog here and humans too. He just wants to be loved. He may be shy at first but when he knows you mean well he loosens up and is very friendly. He is not leash trained but loves to go out in the yard and just walk around or be with you. We aren’t sure if he even knows how to bark, we’ve not heard him. We think he’d be fine with older kids and even cats. You couldn’t find a more mild mannered dachshund than Benny 2. Please help us to find him a home, you won’t be sorry with this boy.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
