Mama is a purebred black and tan dachshund. We don't know who Daddy was. What we do know is that is probably why they were dumped at the shelter. When one of our volunteers went to pick up an older dog at a shelter, one of the workers mentioned there were mixed dachshund puppies and their mom outside in the overnight "drop box." Turns out mom, Miss Magnolia, is all dachshund. Someone had put them all in a plastic bin and left them sometime during the night. Of course, SSDR took in mom and babies immediately.
The babies will be ready to go to their forever home around the first of December. They're eating well, playing with toys and some have already learned to bark. They're very excited about being able to bark! We want to make certain that potential adopters understand that they will be making a commitment for the life of these little dogs. They are cute and cuddly now and even have that wonderful puppy breath but that won't last. Pretty soon they will be trying to chew your toes, your shoes, your furniture and anything else in their path. They're being introduced to paper training already. Helping them grow to be well mannered adult dogs requires patience and love and just the right degree of firmness.
If you would like to welcome one of these little ones into your home, fill out an application as soon as possible. Puppies never last long on our website! We're trying to get more pictures and as soon as we can, we'll add them. For some reason, they don't want to sit still and pose.
The $50 spay/neuter deposit will be refunded when you provide proof it has been done. You will be asked to sign an agreement to have this procedure done at the correct age. Our babies WILL NOT be used to breed.
If you have questions, feel free to email foster mom, Sharon, at swblanton@gmail.com.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
