BEING FOSTERED IN NY STATE,,,,,,,
Boo was adopted out then came back to us cause the young man didn't have the time to spend with Boo that he needed. He has since grown into a very playful young man and loves to play with the other dachshunds here at the foster mom's. He isn't much dachshund looking but does like to get under the covers at night, loves to cuddle in your lap and loves to give kisses. He will be neutered before going to his forever home and hopefully his last. We think he will top out at about 25lbs maybe less. He is long legged but is also long backed so that should help any back problems that dachshunds seem to have. He will need to have puppy classes to learn the rules and he is doing well with pottying outside but like a dachshund doesn't like it when it's raining or cold outside. Mama is a purebred black and tan dachshund. We don't know who Daddy was. What we do know is that is probably why they were dumped at the shelter. When one of our volunteers went to pick up an older dog at a shelter, one of the workers mentioned there were mixed dachshund puppies and their mom outside in the overnight "drop box." Turns out mom, Miss Magnolia, is all dachshund. Someone had put them all in a plastic bin and left them sometime during the night. Of course, SSDR took in mom and babies immediately.
More about BOO....NY
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
