BIO:

Nelly was an  owner surrender in NW TN. Said Nelly had to go… We were told she doesn’t like men, but she has now been here for over two weeks and fine with her foster dad. She was a little leery of him at first but when she found out he was the giver of food she soon warmed up to him and even sits in his lap when he watches TV or takes a nap in his easy chair.  What we do know is she likes to sleep in the big bed, down at the foot of the bed with a blanket to burrow under, she is housebroken and she is a sweet sweet girl. She gets along fine with the other fosters here both male and female, we don’t know about cats and we think older kids would be fine as long as they took it slowly with her and didn’t rush her. The foster mom had no trouble picking her up and handling her right after  she got her. Nelly is very housebroken and all you have to say to her is do you have to go out to "potty" and she runs to the door. She uses both the dog door and will go out when you ask her. We feel Nelly will do good in either a home with a fenced in yard or to be walked on a leash. Don't let this beauty get away from you apply for her today because tomorrow it may be too late.

We would like to see her go to a home with a fenced in yard but she walks well on a leash. Please give Nelly a lasting forever home where she won’t hear again “she’s gotta go”.

UPDATE:  I'm the new foster mom of Nelly and she is a very sweet girl. Loves to be right where you are.  Her energy level seems to be moderate. She loves her squeaky toys and for you to throw the ball for her. I took her kayaking and she was great. Sat right there with me and watched nature. She does lunge at my larger dogs when they are too close or bump things in the night but not at the ones her size. She would do great with a friend to play tug with or by herself and you. I have one that is blind and deaf and will bump into the bed, door, wall, etc. She thinks someone is coming in to get me.  Nelly has so much love to give to her furever parent(s). She will be a great take everywhere pal.  Please consider her.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about NELLY....FL

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
