BIO:

Abby 3 came from Eastern TN given up by her family because of a grave illness to one of the family members. She has been used to being a pampered pooch and the change in the family dynamics had her confused and she did act out but has turned around here. She prefers to have just her family but will tolerate strangers as long as they don’t push her. She’s fine with the other fosters both male and female and would be fine with another dog but she really prefers to be in her family members lap by herself. She would be great for a retired person either male or female. She will go to the dog when she needs to go out or if you ask her does she need to “potty” she’ll run to the door. She’s not one to stay out long, just does  her business then back in again. She would love to sleep in the big bed but is just as happy sleeping on a doggie bed. Since she doesn’t care for strangers a quieter home would be better with older kids that would know to leave her alone and we don’t think she’d do well with cats.

We think the ideal home for Abby would be a single or married couple, possibly retired but she’s be fine alone during the day, fenced in yard or at least walked 3-4 times per day.  Are you that home that can give Abby her lasting forever home? Her adoption fee is “just a donation” and the best money you’ll ever spend for your next best friend.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
