Today she understands the concept of pottying outside, she doesn't let you know, but if you can let her out first thing in the am after meals etc, she does very well. Here we have a doggie door and she does quite well with that. No special needs Home with small children: maybe if they can be respectful. She is very gentle and sweet, she could easily be hurt with her long back by a small child trying to pick her up. Good with other dogs, yes, Males yes Females yes Cats, yes MICROCHIP # AVID 94257531 HW : Takes it on the 19th of the month Foster mom: Kathymartine@cox.net BIO: Sissy is such a sweet and gentle girl. She came to me pregnant from a puppy mill in MO. She had lived her life in a rabbit cage till a kind angel, bought her freedom. Sissy has loved her sweet babies so much. I think she was so grateful that they were not taken away from her early. Sissy is now retired forever from breeding and the mill life, it's time for her to be the special love of someone's life. She is a petite and pretty girl. Sissy still has a lot of trouble walking on a leash. We are working with a harness and encouraging her with treats. This extra effort will need ot be continued. Sissy has a very loving heart and will do well in any home that she could be petted and loved everyday, where she could sleep in the big bed and know that special warmth of laying close to her special person. If you could offer Sissy the love she deserves, please fill out an application!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
