Dodger was turned in to animal control when his family could no longer keep him.  He appears to be a Jack Russell/dachshund mix with a short red-brown coat and a little premature gray on his muzzle.  Despite his heritage, Dodger is a laid back little fellow.  He is very good natured and friendly with new people, young and old.  He gets along well with other dogs and the 2 lazy cats that he has met.  He may react differently to a cat that runs, so if you have a cat, the first meeting should be supervised.  He likes children, although very young children should be supervised to be sure they are not too rough with him.  Dodger walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood.  He knows how to sit and comes when he is called.   He likes to sit in a lap or lounge in a dog bed with a chew bone.   Dodger is housebroken and will come and pester you when he wants to go out.  He knows how to use a dog door and if left inside for extended periods of time he will use a pee pad.  Dodger sleeps peacefully at night, usually in his crate, but sometimes in a dog bed or with his people too.

Dodger is one of the easiest dogs I have ever fostered.  He is friendly and cheerful with no bad habits.  If you are looking for a funny little chunk of love, then Dodger is the man for you.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
