BIO:  Bella, is a puppy mill survivor.  She is very beautiful and very smart.  She came to us pregnant early November, and in only a few weeks, starting using the door dog.  Once Bella learned she could count on us to let her out in the morning she kept her sleeping area dry and clean.  She learned not to chase chickens, which sometimes is hard for dachshunds!  She loves going for walks.  Bella is an alpha female, and would do best in a home as an only dog, or with gentle male.
She likes children, very much.  My son is 15 and she truly attached herself to him.  But very young children might alarm her, as she is only just learning to trust people.  Yelling or kids being loud, and running in play worry her.  She has been a very protective mom to her puppies.  When she is worried she retreats to a hiding place.  In our home it has been the laundry basket.
Bella loves to be brushed.  She is being treated for ear mites, and sits patiently for ear cleaning.  She is truly a beauty, and with her quiet ways and deep bark, she seems more like a big dog, than a small dog.
This beautiful girl would certainly make a loving and faithful companion.

More about Bella...IN

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
