Yogi is a joyful puppy and loves playing with his brother Boo Boo and his adopted puppy pack members. He is gentle and loves to be held and to follow. Yogi is adventurous and confident and loves to climb the rocks in our back yard. He’s comfortable and playful with our two older dachshunds.
History:
Yogi and his brother Boo Boo were born on December 17th, 2010. Their mom Penny gave birth to four pups, Yogi and Boo Boo were the only two who survived. Yogi was the first born. Yogi was the largest of the litter and made it his personal responsibility to keep all of his brothers and sisters warm during their first days together. He maintained that role until his brother Boo Boo grew big enough (although still notably smaller than Yogi) to return the favor. Yet Yogi still takes on a leadership role when dinner time arrives because he is the most vocal about noting that it’s time to be fed J.
Training:
Yogi is learning to wait for the release command to eat his food. He loves to eat, just like Yogi Bear (and he’s cuddly like Yogi too). Potty training is a work in progress. He knows how to use a dog door although doesn’t associate it with going outside to use the bathroom. That will come with age and size (and warmer weather).
Best environment:
Yogi will be happy as a member of an existing pack or as an only pet. He’ll be fine in any type of home whether it is an apartment with a doggy park or a home with a fenced in yard. Yogi is very responsive and playful with both my 7 year old daughter and my 13 year old son.
Yogi will do best with a family who has experiential knowledge in training Dachshunds.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
