Sasha is a joyful puppy and loves playing with her brothers. She is gentle and quiet and lets out the most adorable little moans and groans when you pick her up. Sasha is adventurous and confident. She’s attentive and pays attention to verbal queues. She is a cuddler and follows her humans. She’s comfortable and playful with our two older dachshunds.
History:
Sasha and her siblings came to us in January 2011 from a local breeder. We estimate they were about five weeks old.
Training:
Sasha is learning to wait for the release command to eat her food. She is a relaxed eater and doesn’t gobble her food (although she does burp after she’s eaten J). She’s also still potty training. Like any Dachshund, Sasha will be very receptive to training and is highly motivated by food. She knows how to use a dog door although doesn’t associate it with going outside to use the bathroom. That will come with age and size (and warmer weather).
Best environment:
Sasha will be happy as a member of an existing pack or as an only pet. She’ll be fine in any type of home whether it is an apartment with a doggy park or a home with a fenced in yard. Sasha is very responsive and playful with both my 7 year old daughter and my 13 year old son.
Sasha will do best with a family who has experiential knowledge in training Dachshunds.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
